The easiest target at City might end up being Ilkay Gündogan, according to Sport. The German midfielder is out of contract this summer and a move would theoretically be simple. Xavi needs midfield stability, and right now as we’ve seen, if Pedri and Gavi have injuries or suspensions, things get brittle quickly. Gündogan would be a fabulous veteran presence to fortify and stabilize the midfield, particularly if Sergio Busquets departs when his contract expires. The bottom line is Xavi would probably prefer another City midfielder in Bernardo Silva, but contractually he’s a more difficult (and expensive) signing and unlikely to arrive. The midfielder is out of contract at the end of the season and has received proposals from several clubs. One that has been linked heavily with him is MLS’s Inter Miami, who would pay more than the Catalans are ready to offer. It’s said Barcelona will offer Busquets 7 million euro net each year. They can’t match offers higher than that due to the club’s financial issues and issues with La Liga’s salary cap rules. The club has decided to renew the captain’s contract due to the coach. The 31-year-old Brazilian attacker will be available on a free transfer, and several teams will be interested. Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp has said he was surprised by Firmino’s decision to leave but that he was sure the forward would give his all for his remaining time at Anfield. The latest gossip says that Firmino is considering joining several clubs, and one of them is FC Barcelona . As Emile and I discussed in yesterday’s Blaugranes pod , Joao Cancelo would be a dream summer transfer for Barcelona. As it turns out, Barca reportedly thinks so as well. The right-back’s loan move to Bayern Munich hasn’t gone as planned so far and his time will undoubtedly end with a return to Manchester City in the summer. Unless Pep and Cancelo are able to come to a solution, which would require Guardiola certainly promising Cancelo starting minutes, which he doesn’t appear keen to do. That could lead Cancelo to push for another transfer in the summer window, and Barca would be the perfect destination for another loan deal. Xavi’s side have reportedly spoken to his father and are pretty keen on signing the teenager, according to Diario Sport. It’s not quite as easy as all that though. Wirtz is contracted to Leverkusen until 2027 and is valued at around 70 million euros - way out of Barca’s reach. The Uruguayan was sent off for a last-man foul in the 1-0 win and there were fears initially he could miss two games and sit out El Clasico. However, the RFEF’s Competition Committee has now confirmed Araujo will only be banned for one game, ruling him out of Sunday’s trip to Athletic. The two players are both out on loan, with Abde at Osasuna and Nico at Valencia, but are due back at Barcelona at the end of the season.
